So I was out and about a little yesterday and didn't really see a single "deal" definitely nothing worth dying over and yet I watch the news and there are two stories about people dying during the "black friday" (what the fuck is that supposed to mean anyway?) and all i can think to myself is were they giving away extra kidneys? was there a buy one extra year of life get one free deal? Insane. All I can think of is this guy in Long Island - part time worker - 34 years old goes to work to make like 8 bucks an hour and never comes home.
What a fucking waste...

No doubt I've been lazy updating my site Stark-Arts
but that doesn't mean I haven't been trying. Despite some personal issues and camera issues I've still maintained a trickly of output and found some older images that hadn't yet seen the light of day and this day I bring you the biggest update ever...in fact the only update ever.
Also (and they say the third time is the charm) I am going to rededicate myself to putting something up on this blog each day...
Sometimes a (hopefully witty) anecdote, sometimes an image, sometimes just some made up story that I think about when I'm loving myself...

In the near future I'm also going to try to figure a way to make my work available to you in limited edition signed and framed prints...I had a much better go of it at the erotic flea market that I sold some of my images at and that has led me to believe that maybe someone out there actually likes my work...

Shooting With Other Photographers

I had the pleasure this past week of doing some rigging and shooting with two guys that produce excellent photo work...it was honestly the first time I'd ever really shot side by side with anyone and it was easier than I imagined. No alpha male bullshit or other nonsense. The shoots gave me a chance to do some more rigging that was not my usual. The above image is by Aeric Meredith Goujon of the amazing Ree Ja. Rigging by me...

it was fun to be able to spend more time directing and tying and figuring out what to do with the subject since it was Melvin's shoot and he set up the lights and found the place...

I think all the time "i should put something up today" or "i think i have the start of a good new story..." but then something called life gets in the way. Model Call

If you've had a chance to take a look at The Stark-Arts (or if you've been reading this at all) you've seen that I'm working on a series of fetish out in public shots and so this is a call...

Women, Couples (any mix match), (hate to put it bluntly here but -) attractive transgenders, and in shape men are invited to contact me at jc@stark-arts.com if you would like to get some (hopefully) quality shots of yourself in public flaunting yourself a bit. Adventures In Phototaking

The other night I decided to take my little artsy shibari photography show on the road. To be completely honest little might now be the right term for me...and artsy is in the eyes of the viewer...and my shibari is pretty simple so...the real truth is I found a model willing to let me tie her in public and take some pictures...

I decided for this shoot that I would need an assistant. I'd never had one before and I wasn't going to pay anyone so it had to be a friend. It had to be someone that would not freak out the model and that knew a thing or two and that would exude calmness because even though I was certain that I would not be arrested this was the first time I'd decided to take the show outside.
My friend/co-worker/photographer/cool guy Manzell (when he give me a link to his work - I'll give you one) decided to be my wing man. We worked our day job during the day form 9 - 7 with the plan to pick up the model at 10 and do some crazy guerrilla style shooting...

A word or two on my tools for this job - a 1dMk II - old by todays standards and probably not the right tool for this job. Sufficient and in it's day a great camera but slow focus in low light ended up a problem for me as the night went by. 70-200 2.8 IS is a champ and I love it. 16 - 35 2.8 also a champ on a 1.3 crop...(version 1 is soft on full frame and i have...version 1 but not a full frame so it all works) and the weakest point in the whole set up is the canon 550 flash. The flash from shot to shot is inconsistent even in manual (which you have to shoot since canon does not have ttl wirelss) and a relatively slow recylcle speed made for some moments lost.



Back to the (mis)adventure. We pick up Asha at 10 - she is right on time which in my experience is a sign of the apolypse as most models seem to be a little late - and we begin to drive toward some locations I have in mind. I never got to shoot at either of them as I seem to have misjudged the number of tourists that would be out from 10 - 12 on a Tuesday night including a few too many kids. So we drove a bit and I came to Beaver St in the financial district about 100 steps to Delmonicos Steakhouse and found a building with a service elevator door open (not the actual elevator but the door that let people make deliveries to it...the room was surrounded by scaffolding so it made a location that I decided would be fun to shoot.

stretching thin

from out of the blue I seem to be popular. not personally. but my work seems to all of a sudden be getting some positive response. this pleases me. a lot. but at the same time all of a sudden i don't feel like i have enough time to do anything. if you've dealt with models much you realize that they have the attention spans of 30 something men (like me) meaning that if you don't get them in front of the camera quick you probably won't. There is always someone else coming along that will grab the creative fancy. I really hope that i get as many of these lovely wonderful women in front of my lenses as soon as possible and that i'm capable of giving my best to them...

The Streets of NYC

Brooklyn on a Friday. Nice camera. Nice girl. Nice weather. Nice location. Some nice pictures before it goes wrong. The shoot starts in the streets under the Manhattan bridge. No one really seems to even be paying particular attention to our vinyl covered vixen ( see last post for the first outfit) when we decide to mosey into Brooklyn Bridge Park. I love the abandoned building to the left as you walk in as well as the ability to get the Brooklyn Bridge clearly into the shots. We are shooting with the outfit you see below and from out of nowhere comes the friendly (well not so friendly) neighborhood park security guy. To set the stage I'm pretty big... about six five and 240. This guy was wider than me...not as tall but not small either. He rides up in a gold cart and says "what's the purpose of this fucking shoot?"
no " how are you? what's up?" no "hey...that's a pretty girl but we can't have that here" nothing of the sort....my answer is "to get some pictures" he comes storming out with the "what are you a wise guy?" thing leaving me no real place to go but defense. he starts with the hands up near my face thing and i ask him to lower them...he does not follow my request. i then quietly tell him that if he won't put his hands down I will drop him...
this engenders a negative response as one might imagine...he goes to his supervisor and comes back with 5 other guys and they all look like they want trouble except the guy that turns out to be the boss...i explain to him my past employment as a member of ny's finest and let him know that my understanding of the laws for photos in nyc were that i just couldn't use a tripod for over 30 minutes but according to him brooklyn bridge park is a state park and subject to different rules that basically say that if they "deem a shoot commercial" it is prohibited...

In Praise Of Strong Women

It's been a busy week...I haven't had a chance to sit down and write but I have been fruitful with my time away from the blogosphere....
Had a chance to shoot two beautiful women this week. Had a chance to tie both of them up.
Think I made some pretty nice images...
What made these two different was that they are both pro dommes in NYC (Sindy on left, Sasha on right in case you've been bad) and I got both of their bondage cherries...hooray for me. Now anyone that knows me knows i love strong women...intelligent women...and thirdly beautiful women. I am also sexually dominant. That has never meant to me that I am better than the women i have played with. It just means that I've been lucky to have relations with women that are capable of dropping their guards and enjoy serving me in various ways just as I might enjoy doing things for them in the "vanilla" world. I have always thought that in order to submit one must be strong. Weakness is not submission...weakness is weakness. These two for me are mutually exclusive. This brings me again to why I love dommes. Models vs. Lifestyle

it's always interesting to me when i get someone that is not "lifestyle" but still thinks it would be fun to do some bondage for a shoot...the looks on their face, the new sensations as the rope goes over them, the reaction to their rope marks. It all amuses me. I wonder to myself what made them decide to ask to do a bondage shoot...I ask them if it's something they are interested in but have never had the chance to explore. I ask myself if the results are any different when shooting lifestyle vs "models". I ask them what they hope to achieve by adding these to a portfolio. I ask myself if I treat them different because they are "outsiders" to my lifestyle - invaders coming to try to capitalize on it in some way. I wonder if they enjoy it as the rope slithers over their flesh. I ask them if they are OK with the fact that I'm touching them more in one bondage shoot then I'll touch a group of vanilla models in a year? They always say yes. Many say they have found they like it. Many say that it's something they will have to get the boyfriend/husband/girlfriend to learn/try/do. I have been lucky I think that I've never had a really negative experience with a non-lifestyle model and I think I've maybe even added some flavor to many of their vanilla lives.

In every relationship there comes a point of no return. Maybe not everyone but just about. Many things can be said and done and the human mind has a powerful amount of elasticity that allows us to bounce back from slights perceived or real. But there is always that point of no return when trust is completely broken or at least when that amount of trust lost outweighs any love or affection possessed. This is not only true in marriage or other affairs of the heart but also with material items, institutions, and for the true point of this post - jobs.
Companies (and countries for that matter) like to talk about devotion, honor, respect, etc but to me that is a contract that goes both ways. A business that is greatly profiting from the hard work of it's individuals needs to fairly compensate them or else risk losing the same abilities that made the employee desirable to the company in the first place...
This is all a long winded way of saying that if you fuck someone in the ass don't think your dick is gonna come out smelling like sunshine...
This is one of those posts where i started out with such vitriol but in the short course of two minutes I've lost my will to write it just as i've lost my will to make lots of cash for my current employer....
